HP Touchsmart IQ506 Brings New Interface, Bigger Screen

July 14, 2008

HP turned the Touchsmart line on its head and designed an entire new touch interface for its IQ506 PC. The touch UI focuses around “lifestyle apps” such as calendars, weather, news and multimedia, and is supposed to offer a more intuitive experience.

This is the claimer on the page. However, I believe that this computer is a very fancy way to do nothing. Basically, you can touch the screen. Woohoo. That’s never been done before.. I will point to very handy devices such as the.. hmm.. iPod touch that you can take with you places, and actually use in an environment that would be handy.

here is a link to a hp webpage that gives a demonstration of the computer.

Now, imagine that you had to write a paper, okay. Sitting at a desk, no mouse, and any time that you needed to move your cursor, you had to reach up and touch the screen in order to move. Well, that certainly gets tiresome after a while. I can’t imagine computing for a few hours buy reaching up and touching my monitor. A tablet PC works just fine for that; you will not have to reach up and touch your monitor.

In the end, if you desire to have an excellent way to look at pictures, watch videos, and edit photos, it would be a great computer to experiment with. If you live in the real world, on the other hand, you may want to get something a little more practical.

hp has recently come out with a brand new computer in the area of Tablet PCs. I must say that I am completely impressed with this computer. It’s 2.1 Ghz Intel Duo Core processor is fantastic, and it has perfect graphics card for more or less everything that you’d want to do with a mobile PC. However, as a tablet is supposed to be, it’s functionality is within being able to touch the screen, and does extremely well (as we all would hope). Only downsides are that the non-key buttons are not all that great, and the screen reflects light in such a way that it makes it very difficult to read in direct light. The highlight of this computer is it’s price: half of that of it’s predecessor, and it is only a better machine. It’s crazy.

TabletPCReview.com has a few reviews that sum it all up very well.
